TOP TEN

Posted on 12/06/2009 at 05:25 pm by Nanci Boutet Viewed 1,795 times | 8 comments

Maine has some pretty good surfers. Aquaholics would like to know who you think is the best. Let's put it to vote. We can create categories; Retro Masters (those who are over 50) Still got its (over 40) Yahoos (over 30), Prime of their lifers (20 and over) and Groms (under 20). We'll come up with a deadline when this gets off the ground. We're going to rate according to numbers, so spread the word. We'll tally it up and give trophies. Let's start with input as to what we should have for guidelines and criteria. Get the word out! Use the comments link to vote and send ideas for criteria. Let's see who's REALLY the best!

Chris Palmisano would consider himself to be the best, rivalled only by Andrew (boner) Norton, with a close 3rd being Grey Lincoln, aka Log.

Those are my votes, I hope they are taken seriously.

Keeping it as simple as possible would be my vote. Go for male and female and have longboard, shortboard and legends. So for example Tom Wiley would possibly end up on the shortboard list and the legends list. But... The vexing question is: who could actually show up on every list? Answer: the biggest legend of them all.

Sounds like we need to hold a contest.

I have to be honest and say that I don't understand the whole Top Ten comparison that's been going on lately with either Aquaholics or other local surfers. Comparison brings about frustration and merely encourages envy, which is called competition. I know personally that I don't surf to compete or care to be compared to anybody else in the water. It's not about that for myself and I imagine the majority of people who surf around here.I'm very curious as to where this is all stemming from and where we're going with it, so will somebody please explain the purpose of all this for me.

Well, Jay, at first I thought it was a joke, but we have to respect that other people surf with different ideals. For some, a little healthy competition brings out the best in them, and makes them push their limits. This is good for their surfing. I was thinking it's time for us to have a surf contest for people who find it a good motivator to be the best they can be in their passion. Stay tuned.

Hannah Flagg is the princess of surfing as a "grom" and extremely dedicated to the sport! Watching her surf makes me love the sport too!
