Semana Santa

This is probably my last post from Costa Rica. I'll be posting a ton of pictures from my trip once I get back to the States. Stay tuned...
It's "Semana Santa" (Holy Week, Easter). All the Ticos (Costa Ricans) get Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday off, or they are paid double at their jobs if they have to work. Millions of people from the cities head for the beaches and tourist spots. If you plan a trip here, AVOID Semana Santa.
Evan Flaherty and Jeremy Riordan are here. They arrived Wednesday evening in time for a quick surf at Negra. It was sketchy though, as it was low tide, and getting dark. Those rocks get creepy at dusk.
We surfed Marbella Thursday morning, Junquillal in the afternoon and Negra in the evening. The wind stayed offshore all day.
Friday, Evan and I surfed Little Hawaii while Jeremy (mister lag-behind) surfed the Rivermouth. In the afternoon we surfed Junquillal, but because of Semana Santa, it was pretty crowded, so we checked the Rivermouth by the estuary near our lot. It was SUPER fun! We drove to Negra to run an errand, and Evan decided to go for a quick surf. I was watching while he went top to bottom for a lip ride. He said he got his bell rung. A few guys paddled in right through the rocks, I watched one guy get his leash caught up and he came to a dead stop on a reef rock. Amazingly, he and his board were unscathed.
Again the wind stayed offshore everywhere but the Playa Venado Rivermouth. I thought it had switched, but when we returned to the house, it was offshore there. The wind howled Thursday night, yesterday and last night.
Today, I decided to try to go to Grande to pick up my repaired surfboard. When I called, not only was it not ready, it was not back yet. Ian and Corynne were going to try to track it down. I stayed behind while Evan and "Jerry" drove to Nosara for a bit of surf and sightseeing. I read, rested and napped. It was very nice and quiet.
Evan and Jeremy want to take a road trip to Witches Rock, but we'll see how they feel after the road trip to Nosara. These roads beat you up pretty bad, and it's rained a few times, which tends to make them more rutted.
Lizzy Muse is in MalPais, but I haven't heard whether she's coming north. If so, she better hurry, I come home to the cold state next week! I miss my husband and sons, but not the snow and cold. Especially not the 654 suit and 7mil boots and gloves! It's pretty nice to grab your board and run into the water.
Stay tuned, see you soon.
