Hi,

Kennebunk is a little bigger than yesterday- overhead. I't disorganized like yesterday though. Looks like the swell is dropping or we're seeing a lull. Get out there before it's gone. Another New England fake out? Arrrgggh. Hope not. Today is supposed to be North wind,8-11 ft. Tonight, dropping to 6-9 with West wind. We'll see!

Hi, Grover called. He was watching it from the car, clean, waist to chest high. Perfect lines. He wasn't going to even get in, but he saw a set and it was nice enough to entice him in. Meredith said bring a longboard. Sounds like a warm up session. It's getting big down south, and I've had a lot of calls "from away". I think it's going to be a zoo at Kennebunk. If you have one, go to your alternative spot. It's still going to be fun, since some folks won't even be able to get out.

Well, there's frost on the pumpkin and fire in the woodstove! The swells have been showing up nearly every weekend. Last weekend (October 16th, 17th and 18th) were fun, even IF it snowed Sunday afternoon while we surfed Old Orchard beach. Brrrr. This past weekend was a wee bit warmer, and we were expecting gale winds to accompany the rain. Lucky for us it was better than expected! It still rained, but the wind was mild and the surf was nice. Sunday was gangbusters! Everybody I've spoken to said they...

Evidently everyone who surfs or has an interest in surfing is up in arms.

If you know me, you know I want to play volleyball if there’s no surf. Well, the surf has been marginal. The volleyball was good (meaning the players were skilled). I got a few games in while Bex rented a nice board for $25 for two hours. I watched and listened to a surf lesson, looking for indeas and improvements on our lesson curriculum. The main focus was on rip currents....

We had the "Berber Breakfast" there too. The Amalou is addicting. The eggs were a little over fried, but some people like them CRUNCHY. The cappuccino was excellent. A Tajine is a glazed ceramic cooking "pot" with a round, low base and a tall conical top. It is designed to return all the moisture to the bottom of the pot. The ideal Tajine cooks so that some of the meat or veggies at the bottom get crispy and the veggies and fruit above are tender. Our 4 Tajines were...

We drove down, parked, unloaded, got in the water, and got blown down the bay. It was SO WINDY. We tried to surf, but it was too windy. We had lunch in a restaurant where the plastic chairs were blowing off the patio. Lunch was fish, salad and, of course, fresh bread. A bunch of the British crew tried to paddle out around the point at a beach around to the North of the rocky outcropping, but they got blown up. It was pretty big. It looked like it was pretty small when they started to paddle out, but...

December 29th, today we did actually go out to Anchor Point WITH PETE (in the dark). Pete jumped off the rock before it was even light out. Marc then waded out from the beach at the North side of the rocks and drifted into the peak area. I watched to be sure he wasn't maimed, then did the same. I saw a few rock boils nearby, and the sets were big enough to be intimidating, but I was patient and my timing was good. It was fun, super fun. December 28th, We planned on a dawn session with Pete at
Anchor Point, as it’s a zoo after sunrise. We woke to Chrystal knocking

along a dark path to a place I’d never been? Jumping off a rock? Did I

We arrived December 27th. That afternoon we went out to
Banana Point, a fun, easy wave but the wind was making a mess of
things. We paddled out, but surfed like kooks (be quiet, Billy) in the
choppy mess. Every place is a long right point here. Every spot. I
don't think there are any "lefts" except for the beach breaks, which
are few and far apart. We had a big delicious dinner on the rooftop,
had a nightcap and went "home" to bed.

Sorry it’s taken so long to get this out. It was little difficult to get on the computer at the surf camp. I pieced together this blog as a document and edited it at home . Marc and I went to visit our friend Peter Hansen (AKA Kiwi Pete) and his girlfriend Chrystal-Rose Thomas. While we were there, Neils Van Wijk arrived. All are old friends and Maine regulars at Manitou Wakeboarding Camp in Oakland during the summer season, and can be seen in the water at Kennebunk on "Weekly Wednesday...

The surfers (instructors) will help the kids (students) catch waves and the “taxi’s” (non-surfing volunteers) will bring the students back out to the instructors. We hope to have a 2 to 1 ratio (2 volunteers to 1 student) so, please spread the word so Aquaholics can use all 50 of our boards to SHARE THE STOKE. Well, the surf has been great and summer is blowing us kisses
nearly every day. The weather has been
great, and the beach has been beautiful. We’ve been playing Doubles Volleyball
at Old Orchard for about a month, a few times in our swimsuits! We had surf every day last week, and everyone in the water got their fill. It was consistent and fun.

Well, it's Wednesday and Evan (Mr. Potato Head) Flaherty and Jeremy (Jerry you're so funny) Riordan left for Liberia at 10:00 this morning after a fantastic early surf at Little Hawaii. It was our second surf there, the first being on a small day last week. Today was head and a half high and clean as a whistle. We got up at 4:30 and (once Jerry got his bag together) we headed to check Negra and Avellanas. While we walked to Little Hawaii Jerry could have tripped over Lola while she slept on the beach...

Friday, Evan and I surfed Little Hawaii while Jeremy (mister lag-behind) surfed the Rivermouth. In the afternoon we surfed Junquillal, but because of Semana Santa, it was pretty crowded, so we checked the Rivermouth by the estuary near our lot. It was SUPER fun! We drove to Negra to run an errand, and Evan decided to go for a quick surf. I was watching while he went top to bottom for a lip ride. He said he got his bell rung. A few guys paddled in right through the rocks, I watched one guy get his...

If I go to Witches Rock (Roca Bruja), I like to drive in when the tide is high early in the morning, camp out and surf the wave with only a few people (in theory). It's best at high tide. If you surf it crack of dawn or sunset, you don't have the "boat people" to contend with because since the boat taxis won't leave before sunrise, they don't get there until later in the morning and they leave long before sunset. The boats leave out of Playa Hermosa, south of Liberia and it takes an hour and a half...

Monday was a little overhead, and sucking walls. Ellie and Marc (Boutet) were fearless, going all out. Mark Arseneault was thoroughly enjoying the walling lefts that were lining up for him. Marc Boutet was dropping in on everything, holding back nothing, until he put his fin into his heel, slicing a nasty gash into his foot. Sharks are a problem at Marbella, so I STRONGLY encouraged him to go in (beating or no beating) since he was bleeding. Marc had been riding a 9'2" Rusty Desert Island, which...

Sorry it's taken so long... My Internet connection is not

I left Maine
early January 30th. The flights were good, I flew American and they
didn't charge for my boards. SCORE!

I arrived in Costa
Rica a little early, got my car (more
expensive than I expected) and was loaded and on my way in no time. I headed
for Playa Grande, to my friends Surf Shop "Frijoles Locos". Since my rental in

Hi everybody,

I just came back from surfing at Gooch's beach; the surf was
about chest to head high, perfect peaks. The wind was offshore, not too strong,
just nice to groom the faces. It's snowing SO hard, it's a little hard to see
with the flakes blowing into your eyes, but it's very pretty out. Lizzie and I
caught a bunch of nice waves. It wasn't too cold, but it does get a little
chilly when you sit too long. Mark Seeley was out as well as David from The
